Software Licensing Errors in Anyware

If a specific piece of software in UConn Anyware does not launch, one of the more common reasons is a licensing error. Most of the software in UConn Anyware is managed by a software licensing server. Occasionally after a Windows update, the service for the individual application on the server will not start up after a reboot, even it is set to start up automatically.

This guide is intended for IT administrators who manage an instance of Anyware. If you are an Anyware user and think this issue may be occurring, please contact the IT department who manages your Anyware instance. The standard Anyware desktop is managed by ITS, which can be reached with a support ticket.

  1. To resolve this, the admin of the licensing server should find the individual application service on the server in Services and manually start the service.

  2. If manually starting the individual application "service" is successful, the next step is to sign out of Anyware and sign back in to see if the software successfully launches.

  3. Next, manually reboot the server (keeping in mind any other applications that may be reliant on that server), and check to make sure the service automatically starts up on its own after a reboot.
