Joining a Webex Session Using a Phone/Landline

Users who wish to call into a Webex session can do so using their mobile phone or landline.

If your computer does not have a microphone or camera, it can still be used to show you the conference while you use your phone/landline to hear and speak to the conference. You will be able to see the Chat and Participant list as well.

If you need to connect with a phone, ITS recommends that you connect with a computer, as well, if possible.

Instructions

  • Use this option if you are having trouble using your microphone/speakers.

  • Use this option if you have a computer available but do not have a microphone.

  • This method involves the Meeting running like normal on your computer, except you will use your cellphone/landline to hear and speak to the participants.

Participants have the option to join using a phone line while still maintaining their ID in the Participant Panel by using an Attendee ID. The use of this ID will cause your name to appear in the Participant Panel rather than your phone number.

Using this method, you will be able to see the other participants and you will also retain the option of sharing your computer screen and using Chat, all while using your phone for the outgoing and incoming audio transmission.

  1. Click on the Join link that you received (through invitation, email, or HuskyCT).

  2. When the preview window opens, click on the audio option below the Start/Join Meeting button to expand the audio connection options.

  4. After choosing Call-in, join or start the session.

  5. After you enter the Meeting Room, a pop-up will appear on your screen. This pop-up has instructions to finish the process.

You may use a phone line to communicate with the Webex session without a computer.

  • You will not be able to see the Participants or the Participant List.

  • You will not be able to use the Chat feature.

  1. When joining a session through a phone line, always call +1 415-655-0002.

  2. Wait for the voice recording.

    1. You will then be asked to enter the Access Code or Meeting Number (they are the same number) and then press #.

      • Example keystrokes: 1234567890#

    2. If you do not know the Access Code/Meeting Number but do have an invite link, you will need a computer to obtain the required information. Your computer does not need a microphone or camera in order to help.

      1. Check if your invitation contains the number. If not, continue below.

      2. Click on the Join link.

      3. Cancel the download if it appears.

      4. Click on the ⓘ icon (located at the top of the screen next to the name of the Meeting) to open the session Information. The small window that appears will display the access code.

    3. If you do not know the Access Code or Meeting Number and do not have an invitation, ask the Host to share the Access Code or Meeting Number (same number) with you.

  3. When asked to enter your Attendee ID, bypass this step by pressing the pound symbol on your keypad (#). In doing so, your name will not appear in the Participants Panel; only part of your phone number will be displayed.
