Faculty, staff, and students should set password recovery options so that they can reset their passwords (create new ones) if they forget them.
ITS is phasing out NetID password resets over the phone and through our online chat. If you do not set up recovery options, you will not be able to reset your password without coming to the IT support desk at your campus.
Setting up NetID password recovery options
Navigate to the NetID website.
Login by clicking Login for more and entering your NetID and NetID password.
Click on My NetID at the top of the page.
Click Set Password Recovery Options.
Set up either a secondary email or mobile number.
Only one recovery option can be set up at a time. If you enter information in both fields a verification code will not be sent to either. If you wish to set up a second option you may do so after you set up the first option.
Secondary email
If you are a student in high school or at a different university, do not use your email associated with that school. Oftentimes those accounts will be deleted when you separate from the institution and you will no longer be able to use it for recovery.
Enter a personal email address (not @uconn.edu) in the Secondary Email Address field.
Click Save Changes.
Log in to the email account provided.
From your inbox, open the email from netid@uconn.edu. This email message will provide a verification code you will need to copy or write down.
Enter the verification code into the field provided on the NetID website.
Click Submit to complete the process. You will be returned to the Password Recovery page if the process was successfully completed.
Mobile number
You must use a cell phone serviced by one of the listed carriers. If your carrier is not listed, enter a different cellphone number (if you have one) or select another password recovery option.
Enter your mobile number in the corresponding field.
Click on the white downward arrow to open up the drop-down menu and select your carrier.
Click Save Changes.
Open the text on your phone to retrieve the verification code.
Back in your browser, enter the verification code into the field provided.
Click Submit to complete the process. You will be returned to the Password Recovery page if the process was completed successfully. Here, you will see a new option to remove the current email address listed.
