This article covers add-ons that students, faculty, and staff may need to use HuskyCT.

Article Overview

PDF Viewers

In order to view and download PDFs on HuskyCT, your computer must have a PDF reader installed. The most common PDF reader available is Adobe Reader X. Alternatively, you can use Foxit Reader for your PDF reader instead of Adobe.

  • Adobe Reader X is a free program for viewing, printing, and commenting on PDF documents. It enables the user to open and interact with all types of PDF content, including forms and multimedia.

  • Foxit Reader is a PDF viewer that allows you to open, view, and print any PDF file. Unlike other readers, Foxit Reader includes easy-to-use collaboration features like the ability to add annotations, fill out forms, and share information with social networks.

Reading, Editing, and Creating Microsoft Office Documents

In order to view and download Microsoft Office documents, you must use the Microsoft Office Suite, even if it is just the basic version. The two most common Microsoft Office file formats that are encountered are .doc or .docx (opened by Word) and .pptx or .ppt (opened by PowerPoint). There is other free word processing software, but they may be unable to open these specific formats. Students can download Office Suite from Office 365.

Movie Viewers

QuickTime

QuickTime, an Apple product, is capable of handling various formats of digital video, picture, sound, panoramic images, and interactivity. If a professor uploads the media content as QuickTime, this program is required to view the file.
