Gradebook Column Types in Ultra Course View

This article is intended for instructors looking to learn more about Gradebook column types in Ultra Course View.

Item

  • A single column in the Gradebook that only factors in one grade, without any calculation.

  • Can either be manually created, or automatically created with an assignment, test, or graded Discussion.

  • For manually created columns, grades must be imputed by an instructor.

  • For columns tied to assignments, tests, or graded Discussions; grades can either be automatically. populated or for assignments that require grading, will flow to the column once the instructor enters the grades.

Calculation

  • A single column in the Gradebook that performs a calculation on one or more Gradebook columns.

  • All calculated columns are manually created.

  • Instructors can use Functions to build calculations and combine functions using operators.

    • Functions

      • Average- Returns the average for the selected Gradebook items.

      • Total- Returns the total points earned relative to the points possible for the selected Gradebook items.

      • Minimum- Returns the minimum score for the selected Gradebook items.

      • Maximum- Returns the maximum score for the selected Gradebook items.

      • Variable- Select an individual Gradebook item to include in the formula.

    • Operators

      • Add

      • Subtract

      • Multiple

      • Divide

      • Parentheses

      • Value- Enter a numeric value for use in the formula. At most, the value can contain seven digit before the decimal and four digits after the decimal, however, only two decimal places will be shown to students.

  • For example, the formula below would return the sum of the Test, Exam, and Quiz categories and the sum of the Discussion and Homework categories.
