How to Enter Time in CORE
How to Submit Timecards in CORE CT
Sign into your CORE @ https://ess.uconn.edu/ and click on “sign into CORE”.
Your Login is the same as your Net ID and password.
Once signed in, you’ll be brought to the home screen. Click on Time under the Employee Self Service Tab. Timecards should be submitted bi-weekly on the Thursday or Friday of the week you get paid. Holiday’s may restrict processing times, so it is best to always get in the habit of submitting on Thursdays.
Then click on Enter Time:
Once you get to your timecard, make sure the date is the first day of the pay period, this should be a Friday (2 weeks prior). This should auto generate in CORE but it’s still good to check so you don’t accidentally report time for the wrong dates. Ex) if you are submitting your timecard on 11/17 the view by week date should be 11/4.
There are several different reporting codes for time worked. These consist of the following:
REG- Regular time on campus
REG- Override Reason UCTEL- Remote working from home
HOL- Holiday pay, used for any federal holiday regardless of if you work or not.
*The highlighted box in the next photo indicates a holiday, in this case Thanksgiving Day.
HWCE- Indicates that it was a working holiday, there are several holidays that you have the option to work to gain comp time. If you don’t choose to work, you still get paid under the HOL timecode. When claiming this, you have to do both HOL and HWCE on separate lines (pictured later). If working remotely on the holiday, you only have to use the UCTEL override code here- not on the HOL line.
HCU- For when you use the holiday time you earned from a working holiday on another day
SICK- This is for any illness or medical appointments where time off was used
VAC- Vacation time
PL- Personal leave, this should be used prior to claiming vacation time
Payroll always sends out reminder e-mails to ensure that you are up to date on holidays and the usage of these reasoning codes.
To add each reason code, you’ll have to click on the plus sign on the lefthand side to add lines. In this example, I did not work the Veteran’s Day Holiday:
Here is an example of a “working holiday” that was worked. You will see here the HWCE was used:
Once all set, you will click on the ”submit” button to submit your timecard to your supervisor for approval. You will then see that your scheduled hours and reported hours will match (unless a working holiday then it will be over the scheduled hours due to comp time that will be incurred).
One thing to note with the new CORE interface is that your available time off benefits no longer show up under your timesheet. They can now be found under Time, Leave/Comp Time:
