The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service that allows U.S. Citizens and Nationals traveling and living abroad to enroll their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

Make your presence known and help the U.S. Embassy contact you in an emergency, whether natural disaster, civil unrest, or family emergency. 3.

(1) Your whereabouts will not be released to inquirers without your written authorization. (2) Keep Embassy or Consulate information inside your passport for reference while traveling.
