UCONN-GUEST is a non-encrypted, non-secure wireless service that visitors to UConn who do not have NetID credentials may use to access the internet. It does not require NetID credentials to log in. Instead, users must accept terms and conditions, which automatically load in the device’s Web browser upon connecting to UCONN-GUEST or browsing to a website. This connection resets every few hours.
As of August 1, 2022, ITS has started blocking FTP, BitTorrent, and SMTP protocols on UCONN-GUEST.
You may need to connect your wireless device to UCONN-GUEST. Supported devices include:
Gaming consoles, such as Xbox and PlayStation
Apple TV
Smart TVs
Streaming devices, such as Roku, Fire TV Stick, and Chromecast
Devices that do not have a Web browser capable of accepting the Acceptable Use Policy must be registered to allow them to bypass the terms and conditions page.
Communication between wireless devices is not supported. Therefore, the following devices may not function and are not supported:
Wireless printers
Sound systems
Lights, sockets, and other “smart” devices
Etc.
Such devices that communicate through an online cloud service, rather than in a device-to-device fashion, are more likely to function, but are not formally supported.
Smart assistants, such as Amazon Alexa or Google Home, will work standalone, but cannot be used to control lights, sockets, or other “smart” devices.
