Faculty, staff, and students should set password recovery options so that they can reset their passwords (create new ones) if they forget them.

If you did not set up password recovery options and need to reset your password, contact the ITS Technology Support Center via our Chat at techsupport.uconn.edu or by phone at (860) 486-4357.

Setting up NetID Password Recovery Options

  1. Navigate to the NetID website

  2. Click on My NetID at the top of the page.

  3. Click the second option, Set Password Recovery Options. The best approach is to set your secondary contact information using either a personal email or a mobile phone number.

Secondary Email

  1. Enter a personal email address (not @uconn.edu) in the Secondary Email Address field.

  2. Click Save Changes.

  3. Log in to the email account provided.

  4. From your inbox, open the email from netid@uconn.edu. This email message will provide a verification code you will need to copy or write down.

  5. Enter the verification code into the field provided on the NetID website.

  6. Click Submit to complete the process. You will be returned to the Password Recovery page if the process was successfully completed. Here, you will see a new option to remove the current email address listed.

Mobile Number

You must use a cellphone serviced by one of the listed carriers. If your carrier is not listed, enter a different cellphone number (if you have one) or select another password recovery option.

  1. Enter your mobile number in the corresponding field.

  2. Click on the white downward arrow to open up the drop-down menu and select your carrier.

  3. Click Save Changes.

  4. Open the text on your phone to retrieve the verification code.

  5. Back in your browser, enter the verification code into the field provided.

  6. Click Submit to complete the process. You will be returned to the Password Recovery page if the process was completed successfully. Here, you will see a new option to remove the current email address listed.
