Instructors can use Webex to conduct their classes if they are unable to attend in-person. This article provides an overview and recommendations for instructors and students using the Webex service.

  • While the website, webex.uconn.edu, is used for scheduling, ITS recommends that you use the Desktop App to Host your classes to have access to the full suite of Host controls.
  • Make sure you have a reliable local network connection by using an Ethernet (wired) connection rather than WiFi. If you must use WiFi, be sure to sit in the same room as the WiFi access point (router). A direct neighboring room should work just as well depending on your WiFi access point and the construction materials of your house. Ensuring that you have a strong local network connection will give your computer the best chance at creating a stable and enjoyable Webex experience.

    • Do not sit too close to your WiFi access point (router); keep at least 4 feet of distance from your router to prevent performance degradation.  
  • Test your webcam/microphone by starting your Personal Room and making sure the correct combination of devices are active. Use this guide to select your active devices.

  • When recording a Webex Session, the resulting video can be arranged in different layouts. Use this guide to decide which layout you would like to use: Webex Recording Options. Note: This setting will remain until you return to manually change it again.

Please be aware that there may be legitimate technical issues that prevent students from participating in a session. CETL recommends that you have an alternative way for student to be graded in case they could not attend.
