This article is intended for instructors looking to copy Discussion Board Forums from an Original course to an Ultra course.

It is only necessary to follow the steps outlined below if you are converting to Ultra and are not doing a Bulk Conversion.

  4. Leave the setting of File Attachments as default.

    1. From Select Course Materials, choose Discussion Board and select the desired option.

      1. Include only the forums with no starter posts: This will only copy the Discussion Forums, not any threads or posts within. As shown below, only Forum details and settings will be copied. This option reflects the setup of the majority of Discussion Board use cases.

      2. Include starter posts for each thread in each forum: This option will copy both the Discussion Forums and the initial (starter) post for each thread within. This option should be used if an instructor restricts forum activity to a single instructor-created thread (disabling student created threads). After copying, the thread author will be listed Anonymous, and this is generally recommended if these posts were made by instructors rather than students. In addition to copying forum details, threads and initial posts will be copied.

  5. Once you click Submit, you will get a message, Success: This action has been queued. An email will be sent when the process is complete.

  6. Once you get an email from Blackboard Administrator that the operation has completed, refresh the Export/Archive Course page. Then it will show you a downloadable zip file of the discussion board.

  7. Click the file name in blue color. It will download the file on your desktop.

  8. Navigate to your Ultra course.

  9. Click on the three dots in the upper right corner across from Course Content.

  10. On the dropdown that appears, click on Import Content.

  11. Click on Import Course Content.

  12. Select the downloaded zip file and click on Open.

  13. It will show you upload progress in percentage. Once it hits 100%, a grey box with a message of Importing course content will appear on the top of Course Content.

  14. When importing has completed, the grey box will automatically disappear.

  15. Click Discussions to check the discussion forums that have been imported.
