Converting DC Guides for the Cloud Editor
The KB used to be hosted on our very own Data Center (DC) servers. We have since migrated the KB to Confluence’s Cloud offering. While the pages themselves have transferred and are live, they still need to be “converted” to work with the Cloud’s page editor tool.
Pages can be resorted to versions before the conversion and can be reconverted after alterations.
Here are some tips and tricks to help you navigate the conversion process:
Known Limitations and Workarounds
Ensuring a Macro Survives the Conversion
Remove macros from lists before the conversion in order for the converter to understand them. Highlight the macro and click the list button to remove them from the list. Remove extra spacing to tidy up. If you do not remove them from the list, you will need to recreate them after conversion.
Adding New Macros
When adding a new macro to the page, you’ll notice that it is placed at the bottom of the section/page. To work around this, place temporary Heading 2 text right below where you want the macro to be.
Instead, you may type :emoji: in order to add an emoji before your text. Try this with “warning” or “info”
Macros Break Numbered Lists
If you need to add a macro within a numbered list, switch the list to bulleted. The list is still broken, but it is not noticeable.
Adding Images Within Macros
Resize Images Before Page Conversion.
If your page had an image inside of a macro while it was being converted, you are all set; the image will remain inside the macro. You cannot add images inside a macro, other than Expand, in the cloud editor.
An image inside a macro cannot be expanded by a click; the user must right-click to “open image in new tab.”
Embedded videos
In the past, we used the HTML macro to embed videos on our pages; however, this macro is not supported in Refined (our new theme). Instead, we will use iFrame. This guide will show steps for a page that previously had an HTML macro (you can find the info from the video’s source page (Kaltura) if needed).
Before converting the page to the Cloud editor, you will need to grab some information from the HTML macro.
Within the HTML macro, grab the video URL and paste it into a NotePad/Word doc for safekeeping. You only need what is in-between src=” and “ width. Notice that the whole segment is within quotation marks; that is what we need.
Convert the page into the Cloud Editor. Insert an iFrame macro and paste the video’s new URL into the URL box. Set the width to 608 and height to 400.
