Checking for Browser Updates
Faculty, staff and students can check for updates to their internet browser programs.
Checking for Browser Updates in Chrome
- Launch Chrome.
- Look at at the top right corner of the screen.
- If there is a pending update for the browser the icon is going to be colored.
- Green: There has been an update available for 2 days.
- Orange: There has been an update available for 4 days.
- Red: There has been an update available for 7 days.
If you want to update Chrome:
- Click on
- Select Update Google Chrome. If the option is not available, it's because you are already on the latest version.
- Select Relaunch.
Checking for Browser Updates in FireFox
- Launch Firefox.
- Click the menu button
- Click Help and then select About Firefox.
- A window will pop up and it will check for updates and begin downloading them automatically.
- When updates are ready to be installed click Restart Firefox to Update.
Checking for Browser Updates in Safari
- Click on the Apple menu.
- Select Software Update.
- The App Store should open up. When it does select the Updates section on the top right of the page.
- This window will show you the applications that have available updates. Because Safari is a system application, it will bundle it with the others such as iTunes, Security updates etc. This will be seen as one main Software Update. Select Update.
- Restart the computer.
Checking for Browser Updates in Microsoft Internet Explorer or Edge
Microsoft Internet Explorer
- Launch Internet Explorer
- Click Settings
- Select About Internet Explorer
- The latest version of Internet Explorer is IE11. If you have anything older than that, you can download the latest version from Microsoft.
Edge Browser
- Click the Windows Start Button on your desktop
- Select Settings
- Choose Updates and Security
- Click Windows Update
- Select Check for Updates. Because Windows 10 includes Edge, if there are any updates found for it, Edge will automatically be updated to the latest version.
