The University provides several options for faculty, staff, and students to access and download Microsoft 365 (formerly known as Microsoft Office) on University-owned and personal devices.
Faculty and Staff
University-Owned Devices
If your workstation is managed by ITS, Microsoft 365 is distributed automatically to your machine.
Download Microsoft 365 through the software website. Additional Microsoft products can be purchased by submitting an order through the ITS Business Office.
Personal Devices
Faculty, staff, and students can download Microsoft Office for free on up to five personal devices through the Microsoft 365 portal. This licensing remains active as long as they are affiliated with the University.
You can use Microsoft 365 applications online if you do not want to install the software on your workstation.
Students
Students can download Microsoft 365 apps for use on a personal device through their Microsoft 365 subscription. They can also use Windows and Microsoft 365 applications in UConn AnyWare through the virtual desktop. To compare options and get started, see Microsoft 365 for students.
Perpetual licenses of Microsoft 365 are no longer available from OntheHub. Because of this, Mac users no longer need to set up a personal Microsoft account to tie to Office licensing. Licensing is, instead, tied to your UConn Microsoft account.
Project and Visio are separate products from Microsoft 365 and cannot be downloaded through the University’s standard license.
Project is available to students in STEM programs through Azure Dev Tools for Teaching from software.uconn.edu/software/microsoft-azure.
