If you receive the following error message when attempting to open Kaltura Capture, there is a simple fix that you can do yourself. If you need help, always feel free to reach out to techsupport@uconn.edu

This error arrives when Kaltura Capture doesn’t have permission to write to the directory it is instructed to save the recordings into. This is likely a result of not changing the text field from its default path while installing (explained below).

  1. Uninstall Kaltura Capture.

  2. Re-download the installer if needed. Visit kaltura.uconn.edu, click on ADD NEW and choose Kaltura Capture

  3. Click on the download link for Windows and then double click on the downloaded files

  4. The first option you can alter during installation is the Recordings folder:” and this is what needs to change to fix the issue. Shown in the screenshot below, Kaltura Capture defaulted to my Program Files folder, which it doesn’t actually have write-permission. This is for security reasons.

  5. You will need to change this file-path to a location with less-strict permissions. To make this easy, open File Explorer.

  6. Click on the yellow folder icon in your Taskbar.

  7. In the left menu, click on This PC

  8. Click on Windows (C:) → Users → [your username, likely your NetID] → Videos
You may choose a folder other than Videos, but this folder makes sense for this use-case.

  9. Next, click on the file-path bar

  10. Once you click on it, it will show your file path. Copy this text.

  11. Paste this text into the Kaltura Capture installer window.

  12. Continue with the installation now that Kaltura Capture is directed to save its recordings in a folder it has read/write access to.

In Kaltura Capture for MacOS, the default save location is

/Users/[your username, likely your NetID]/Library/Preferences/Kaltura/Capture/Recordings/

  • No labels
