This article is for faculty and staff seeking information regarding the types of column options available to instructors in the Grade Center on HuskyCT.

Full Grade Center Options

In Full Grade Center, instructors have the option to create one of five different types of columns.

Calculated Columns are used to create a collective grade on specific grades/assessments or categories in the course.

Regular Columns

Regular Column is typically used to create manual grades for participation or in-person assessments when they are not created or submitted through HuskyCT.

Average Column

An Average Column is typically used to find the overall average grade of a student, which is determined using all the assessments in the course.

  • An instructor may also narrow it down and choose the assessments or categories of assessments for which they intend to take the average grade.

    • For example, an instructor may set the Average Column to find the overall average grade each student receives for all the homework assignments in the course.

Minimum/Maximum Column

Minimum/Maximum Column can be used to calculate the minimum or maximum grades that students receive for assessments.

  • An instructor may specifically set the column to see what the minimum or maximum grade is earned for any particular assessment or category of assessment.

    • For example, an instructor may set the Minimum/Maximum Column to see the minimum or maximum grade earned by students for weekly quizzes.

Total Column

Total Column is used to calculate the total possible points each student was able to earn in the course.

  • For example, for a course with several assignments, the total points possible to earn might be 230. The total column will display the number of points each student earns out of the possible points.

Weighted Column

Weighted Column is used to calculate the overall grade of a student based on the columns given for calculation and the percentage weights given to each column.

  • For example, a column of quizzes could be given a 20% weighting, a column for the final could be given a 60% weighting, and a column for participation could be given a 20% weighting. The weighted column will then calculate the student's grade based on these weightings.
