This article is for students, faculty, and staff who wish to upload a video to Stream.

Adding a video to your channel allows others to view, like, and comment on it. Any person can upload a video to it. Videos are often uploaded to a channel, and this assumes that the channel is already created. For more instructions on how to create a channel, see Creating a Channel.

  1. Log in to the Office 365 web portal or navigate directly to https://web.microsoftstream.com/ and skip to step 4. 

  2. Click on the grid, or “waffle”, icon in the top left-hand corner.

  3. Click on All apps and then choose Stream

  4. Select Create from the top menu bar.

  5. Select Upload Video.

  6. You may drag the video file(s) to the web browser or select browse to select the file.

  7. While the video is uploading, you will have some settings available to you.

    1. After the video has finished uploading, it will need to be processed.

    2. While the video is being processed, some of the following settings may not be able to be selected or changed. If these are necessary, wait until the video finishes processing to have them available.

  8. Under the Details menu, choose a name, description, language, and thumbnail for the video.

    1. Once the video had uploaded, you may choose a frame from the video. Or you may upload any picture file to act as the thumbnail by clicking on the + button.

    2. The thumbnails will appear once the video has finished uploading.

  9. Under the Permissions menu, choose a group, channel, or people to share the video with.

    1. Check the “Allow everyone in your company to view this video” box to allow anyone with a NetID viewing privilege.

    2. Share with individual users to allow specific viewership and also send them notification email.

    3. Check the Owner box to give that user elevated privileges, such as editing the transcript and editing video details.

  10. Under the Options menu, choose if comments are enabled, captions are automatically generated, and a subtitles file should be uploaded.

    1. Here you may enable/disable comments and auto-generate the transcript (captions).

    2. You may also upload your own transcript (subtitles) if you have one.

  11. To get a shareable link to this video, select Share. If desired, the link can be configured to start at a specific time during the video.

You must stay on this page until the video finishes Uploading. You may leave the page while the video is Processing.

Select Publish to finish.

To view the video, click on the name of the video which appears above the settings menus.
