Compressing files, folders, and programs decreases their size and reduces the amount of space they use on your computer or removable storage devices.
Steps
- Browse to find the file or folder you wish to compress
- Hold down the Control key on the keyboard and click on the file/folder item
- Select Compress “Name of File or Folder” (Mavericks, Yosemite) or Create Archive (Mountain Lion, Lion, Snow Leopard).
- This will create a .zip file with the name of the file or folder that was compressed.
- Double-click on the .zip file to decompress it.
