Full-time employees (faculty, staff, special payroll) are eligible to sponsor accounts for university affiliates, student employees (NetIDWork), and privileged access (NetIDAdmin). ITS has created the Account Sponsorship Application (netid.uconn.edu/affiliate) to provide an easy way to create and manage these accounts. The Account Sponsorship Application is currently in a testing phase, but will be available to all full time employees in the coming weeks. For more information on Learn how to use and access the Account Sponsorship Application, view this page.

Sponsoring Affiliate Accounts

Departments often may need to give individuals temporary access to university resources. These individuals are often temporary contractors or visitors that are otherwise not employed or affiliated with the universityUniversity. By sponsoring an affiliate account for them, they will be assigned a NetID that they can use the same way a full-time employee or student doescan. This NetID would allow allows them to log in to many services , such as UConn's Single Sign-On, ITS Supported Workstations, UCONN-SECURE, etc. Affiliate accounts may be sponsored for up to 12 months from the date of request , and may optionally receive university emailUniversity email. Warning

Please do not use the Account Sponsorship Application to prolong an employee's access following after their employment ends. Instead, the department should opt for re-hiring through a Gratis appointment, special payroll, or regular position.

Sponsoring Student Employee (NetIDWork) Accounts

ITS encourages requires departments to obtain NetIDWork accounts for Student Employees. These accounts allow for student employees.

Why does the University require NetIDWork accounts for student employees?

The use of student work accounts provides for the proper separation between a student's

work activities and their student identity. The separate work accounts allow for greater control over what information can be shared with students, and then ultimately removed through their eventual departure from the organization, either through graduation or moves to other departments and roles.

NetIDWork accounts also receive University email and are given access to Microsoft 365. If you sponsor a NetIDWork account for a student employee, they will receive a new NetID in the format of aaa00000work, where the first 3 letters and 5 numbers match their existing NetID. Sponsoring Privileged Access (NetIDAdmin) Accounts

Employees that have a high level of administrative access to a system or application should have a NetIDAdmin account sponsored for them. NetIDAdmin accounts help separate day-to-day account tasks from those that can have a large impact on a university University system , and reduce the risk of phishing attacks compromising applications. NetIDAdmin accounts are not eligible to have email emails created for them. If you sponsor a NetIDAdmin account for an employee, they will receive a new NetID in the format of aaa00000admin, where the first 3 letters and 5 numbers match their existing NetID.
