You Students, faculty, and staff can send a file request to individuals, inside and outside the university, that lets them securely upload files file requests for secure uploads into a folder in your OneDrive or SharePoint. The request recipient will receive a link from you. When they follow it, they can upload the file Recipients of your request can upload files into the folder you have designated, and they . Recipients do not need to sign into an Office 365 accounta Microsoft 365 account, and they cannot see files uploaded by other recipients.

Note

OneDrive is an and SharePoint are encrypted and secured serviceservices. Sensitive information can be requested and sent through OneDrivethem; however, secure file management practices should be followed. Only request necessary information and do not keep information longer than necessary. Delete files that are no longer needed or required by the university.

Requesting Files on the OneDrive or SharePoint Website

The folder you select below will be the location of the requested files once they are uploaded.

  1. Navigate to https://uconn-my.sharepoint.com/ s.uconn.edu/onedrive or s.uconn.edu/sharepoint and sign in with your UConn email address and NetID password.
    If you do not see the Request files option in your SharePoint site, reach out to techsupport@uconn.edu and request that “External Sharing” be enabled for your SharePoint site. Be sure to include the URL of your site.

  2. Find the folder that you would like the requested file to reside in. Hover over Right click on the folder and click the circle beside the folder name. Do not open the folder.

    choose “Request Files”.

  3. Enter a description for the files that you want. This can be anything that will let the recipient know what files you would like them to upload.

    1. While clear and concise requests are encouraged, be aware of who is receiving the request and tailor your request to them. Example descriptions:

      1. spreadsheet of lab data for the upcoming 2/15 lab

      2. that PowerPoint you showed me last week in your office

  4. Next, enter the user's email address in the Enter a name or email address field. This can be any internal UConn email or any external email.
    If they are a member of the university, you may simply type in their name. Otherwise, type in an email address.

    • Alternatively, you can share the link at the top with any user. Upon following the link, they will be able to upload any file that will be added to your OneDrive or SharePoint.

  5. Once all desired users have been added, click Done

    Sent request confirmation.

Your file request has now been sent. The recipient will now be able to upload the requested files.
