UCONN-GUEST is a non-encrypted, non-secure wireless service that for Internet access by visitors to UConn who do not have NetID credentials may use to access the internetor access to eduroam via credentials with their home institution. It does not require NetID credentials to log in. Instead, users must accept terms and conditionsthe acceptable use policy, which automatically load loads in the device’s Web browser upon connecting to UCONN-GUEST or browsing to a website. This connection resets every few hours.

As of August 1, 2022, ITS has started blocking FTP, BitTorrent, and SMTP protocols are blocked on UCONN-GUEST.

You may need to connect your wireless device to UCONN-GUEST. Supported devices include:

  • Most gaming Gaming consoles, such as Xbox and PlayStation

  • Apple TV

  • Smart TVs

  • Streaming devices, such as Roku, Fire TV Stick, and Chromecast

Such devices Devices that do not have a web browser capable of accepting the Acceptable Use Policy must be registered to allow them to bypass the terms and conditions page.

Note

Communication between wireless devices is not supported. Therefore, the following devices may not function work and are not formally supported:

  • Wireless printersSmart assistants such as Amazon Alexa or Google Home

  • Sound systems

  • Lights, sockets, and other “smart” devices

  • Etc.

Such devices that communicate through an online cloud service, rather than in a device-to-device fashion, are more likely to function, but may work but are not formally supported.

Smart assistants, such as Amazon Echo or Google Home, may work standalone, but cannot be used to control lights, sockets, or other “smart” devices and are not formally supported.
