UCONN-GUEST is a non-encrypted, non-secure wireless service that for Internet access by visitors to UConn who do not have NetID credentials may use to access the internetor access to eduroam via credentials with their home institution. It does not require NetID credentials to log in. Instead, users must accept terms and agreementsthe acceptable use policy, which automatically loads in the device’s Web browser upon connecting to UCONN-GUEST or browsing to a website. This connection resets every few hours.

On August 1, 2022, ITS will begin blocking FTP, BitTorrent, and SMTP protocols are blocked on UCONN-GUEST.

Note

Each time you connect to the Internet while using a hotspot and the UCONN-GUEST network, you need to log in.

You may need to connect your wireless device to UCONN-GUEST. Supported devices include:

  • Most gaming Gaming consoles, such as XBOX Xbox and PlaystationPlayStation

  • Apple TV

  • Smart TV’sTVs

  • Streaming devices, such as Roku, FirestickFire TV Stick, and Chromecast

  • Wireless Printers

  • Other Internet of Things devices (Smart assistants such as Amazon Echo, Google Home, lightbulbs, etc.)

Note

Communication between wireless devices is not supported. Therefore, the following devices may not work and are not supported:

  • Wireless printers

  • Sound systems

  • Lights, sockets, and other “smart” devices

  • Etc.

Such devices that communicate through an online cloud service, rather than in a device-to-device fashion, may work but are not formally supported.

Smart assistants, such as Amazon Echo or Google Home, may work standalone, but cannot be used to control lights, sockets, or other “smart” devices and are not formally supported.

  1. Click on the network icon located to the top right of the main desktop page.

  2. You will find UCONN-GUEST on the available network list. Select UCONN-GUEST and click Join.

  3. A new screen will appear asking you to agree to the terms of the network. Select Yes, I Agree, and you will automatically be connected to the network.

  1. Select the wireless connection icon located to the bottom right of the taskbar.

  2. From the pop-up window, select the UCONN-GUEST network.

  3. Click Connect.

  4. A pop-up window will appear asking you to agree to the terms of the network.

  5. Select Yes, I Agree, and you will automatically connect to the network.
