Duo two-factor authentication (2FA) at UConn is designed to be used anywhere in the world at any time. The simplest way to use 2FA for UConn services when you are outside of the United States is to download and set up the Duo Mobile app for authentication. Duo Mobile works both with or without internet access on your device and is ITS’s recommended second-factor authentication method for all situations. To follow this process, you must have access to the original number that you added to Duo.

Tip

It’s best to follow these steps on a computer because you need to scan a QR code at the end of the process. If you need to follow these steps on your mobile device, you can instead use the activation code.

If you already have Duo set up on your mobile device but did not install the app on your phone, follow these steps below.

  1. and sign in with your NetID and NetID password.

  2. Click on Manage Devices and enter your UConn email address and then enter your NetID password.

  3. Click on Add a device.

  4. Choose Duo Mobile.

  5. Click on I have a tablet to bypass adding a phone number, as your number may change.

  6. Click Next if you have already installed the Duo Mobile app.

  7. Open the Duo Mobile app you installed earlier and click on + Add then click on Use QR code.

  8. Scan the QR code with your phone’s camera.

  9. The new account will be added to Duo as “University of Connecticut”. You may leave this name as it is.
