UConn faculty, staff, and students have 5TB 500GB of storage on their UConn OneDrive for Business accountsSharePoint sites. You can check your storage usage through the OneDrive application or OneDrive SharePoint Website.

Through UConn, all users have 5TB of storage available to them.

1GB (gigabyte) is 1,000GB 000MB (gigabytesmegabytes)*. 1GB is 1,000MB (megabytes)*

For reference: a standard 4-page Word document, without any pictures, is less than .05MB, and you have 500,000MB available.

*Depending on the computer system, the values above are expressed as either 1,000 or 1,024. This does not affect your usage of OneDrive or your computer.

Check how much space OneDrive is occupying on your computer

  1. Open OneDrive

    1. Windows: by clicking the OneDrive cloud icon on the right side of your taskbar.

    2. macOS: clicking on the OneDrive cloud icon in the top menu bar. Click the Settings gear icon to open the settings window.

  2. In the popup window, select the Account tab.

  3. In the Account tab you will see the amount of storage used by OneDrive on your local computer. This is telling you how much of your OneDrive is physically on your computer and taking up space.

Checking overall storage use

Following this section will tell you how much of your OneDrive SharePoint quota (5TB500GB) you are using. This will not tell you how much is on your computer vs. online-only.

  1. Navigate to https://uconn-my.sharepoint.com/ s.uconn.edu/sharepoint and sign in with your UConn email address and NetID password.

  2. Click the Settings gear icon on your SharePoint site.

  3. Click on the settings gear in the top-right , corner and then click OneDrive Settingson Site information.

  4. On the page that opens, click the More Settings tab on the left.

  5. Select Storage Metrics from the list of links.

  6. A new tab will open with your storage metrics. Your used and available storage is displayed on the top right.

    Click on View all site settings.

  7. In the “Site Collection Administration” section, click on Storage Metrics.
