Feedback can be given to students on any work the student submits that can be graded. This article provides instructional support on feedback in the Ultra viewThis article covers how to provide grading and feedback for Ultra course assessments.

Giving Feedback on Assignments
Navigate to the Gradebook.

Select the assignment you want to put feedback on and click on it.

You will be brought to the students' attempts. Click on the attempt you want to put feedback on. On the right side of the page, you will find the Feedback for student option.

Overview
When grading student submissions, instructors and TAs can input scores and provide feedback.
Available feedback methods include: written feedback, rubric scoring, annotations/markup, and recorded video/audio feedback.
Scores MUST be input via the attempt grading view (pictured below) for an attempt to be considered “Graded”. If grades are input via Gradebook column or the Submissions tab, the grade will be considered an “Override” and attempts will still be labeled as “Needs Grading”.

Grading Student Attempts
For assessments in which students submit something that requires grading (assignments, discussions, journals, tests w/ essay questions), scores should be input via the attempt grading view.

Access student submissions by clicking the Gradebook tab. Click on Overview. Locate the assignment and click Grade Now. Image AddedClick on the empty “grade pill” in the top right and input the score. Feedback can also be provided in the Overall Feedback box.

Instructors/TAs only need to provide manual grading for tests that contain essayquestions. Essay questions can be graded student by student, or question by question. Access student submissions by clicking into Gradebook. Click on Overview. Locate the assignment and click Grade Now. Image AddedIf “Students” is selected, grading will focus on an individual student’s submission. Locate the essay question within the test and enter a grade into the gray pill. Feedback can also be provided by clicking the feedback icon Image Added.

If “Questions” is selected, grading will display the responses to the selected essay question. Image AddedBy default, Tests are set to “Post grades automatically”. This means that once essay questions are graded, students will see their scores and feedback.

For assessments that have an attached rubric, the overall score must be tabulated by selecting rubric fields for the attempt to be considered “Graded”. From the right side Grading Rubric panel, click a performance level for each criteria. Image AddedOnce selected, the points for that criteria will tabulate. Image AddedOnce all rubric criteria have been evaluated, the final score tabulation will be visible in the grading pill at the top. No other score grading needs to be done.

Multiple Attempt Grading Settings When grading an assignment with multiple attempts, the assignment settings are important in how they reflect in the Gradebook. Within the assignment click into the settings. Image AddedUnder the settings it is important to note what the Attempts to Grade setting is set to. Image AddedFirst Attempt - when grading attempts, only the FIRST submission’s grade will be reflected within the gradebook column. Last Attempt - when grading attempts, only the LAST submission’s grade will be reflected within the gradebook column. All Attempts - when grading attempts, ALL attempts should be graded. Assignments with multiple attempts can be accessed through the attempt grading view. To begin, navigate to the Gradebook. Click on Gradable items. Image AddedYou will now see the gradable items page that provides information about the assignment/assessments. Image AddedBy clicking on the assessment name, you will be able to access the attempt grading view. Under a student submission, click on ATTEMPT #/# dropdown to view the different attempts. Image AddedClicking on the attempts dropdown will allow you to see when the student submitted each attempt. Image AddedClick on a specific attempt number to change which attempt you are currently grading or reviewing. Image AddedThen proceed with providing scores and feedback as needed.

Providing Feedback
Like scores, Feedback cannot be viewed by students unless the assessment grade is ‘Posted’ and the column is visible.
Also, a grade cannot be ‘Posted’ unless there is a score.
This means that students cannot view Feedback unless there is also an assessment score.

Instructors can provide written feedback within the Overall Feedback box for assignments, or the Feedback for student box for discussions, journals, test essay questions. From the attempt grading view, Overall Feedback will be on the right side. If it is not visible, click the arrow icon. Image AddedAllow permissions for HuskyCT to use your camera and microphone to record. Image AddedTurn on your camera. Click the record button to start recording. There will be a 3-second countdown. Graders can use inline annotation/markup tools to provide feedback on submitted files types including PDFs, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Digital images (JPEG, PNG, etc) and more. See the full list. Image AddedAnnotations can be done by clicking any of the icons on the tool bar shown above. Viewing & Navigation: Use the hand icon Image Added to pan. Click and drag the cursor to navigate. Use the magnifying glasses Image Added to zoom in or zoom out. Use the box icon Image Added to resize the file to fit your screen.
Annotation & Markup: Use the pen icon Image Added , and drop-down menu to select the Drawing, Brush, or Eraser tool. Image AddedDrawing provides hand drawn lines Brush provides wider highlighting Eraser allows you to erase
Additionally, pen settings including color, opacity, and thickness can be customized underneath the adjust/view icons. Image Added
Use the picture icon Image Added to upload images directly onto the submission file. Additionally, clicking the arrow next to the icon allows you to draw on pre-created stamps (images) HuskyCT has provided.
The comment icon Image Added allows you to add a comment box which can be viewed on the side of the file. Text can be highlighted to highlight, strikethrough, underline, squiggle, or make comments. Image AddedImage AddedThe textbox icon Image Added allows you to create textboxes directly on to the file. Graders can select anywhere on the file to create textboxes. Additional options can be found under the tool bar. Image AddedThe line icon Image Added allows you to create shapes/arrows/lines onto the file. Click on the arrow for more options.
Additionally, graders can print and download the submission including the annotative feedback, or click the icon above Image Added to download the original submission without the annotations. Image Added

Automated FeedbackInstructors can input automatic feedback for auto-graded test questions, prior to administering the test. ⚠️ This must be done while making/editing the Assessment. The following auto-graded test questions have the option for automatic feedback. Image AddedThe Automated Feedback setting can be enabled below the answer choices. Feedback can be added for correct or incorrect answers. Image AddedAfter adding any automated feedback, click Save. Students will be able view feedback once grades are posted and in accordance with the Assessment results settings.

Students can access their feedback by re-entering the item through either the Course Content page or the Gradebook. The method for viewing feedback is the same for a discussion, test, or assignment. The steps below outline the student view for a test.
