With the two-factor authentication (2FA) service, faculty, staff, and student employees will be prompted to verify their identity on a second factor that they designate. Depending on the device chosen, they may also select the type of prompt or authentication method they wish to receive. This article covers the types of devices that may be used for this service and the notification options.

Hardware Tokens

Hardware tokens are small devices that generate passcodes that verify your identity in place of a phone. A hardware token can be purchased by contacting the Technology Support Center at techsupport@uconn.edu or 860-486-4357. The cost of the token will be added to your student fee bill.

Hardware Token / Security Key

Hardware tokens are small devices that generate passcodes that verify your identity in place of a phone. The device will rotate the displayed passcode every few minutes to provide you with a new valid code to use. The battery on this device is rated for a minimum of 2 years.
