Internet browsers save parts of a website the first time they are visited. This is used to allow the website to load quickly when visited again. Sometime clearing the cache is necessary when parts of a website have changed. Many of the issues related to browser can be solved by doing this.
How to Clear the Cache in Various Browsers
In Google Chrome
- Launch Chrome
- On the browser toolbar, click More
- Select More Tools
- Select Clear Browsing Data
- Once you’re in the menu, make sure that Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files is checked off
- The drop-down menu at the top of the allows you to select the amount of data that you want to delete. If you would like to delete everything, select beginning of time
In Mozilla Firefox
- Launch the browser.
- At the top right hand corner of the browser click the menu button
- Select the History Icon from the list of icons
- Select Clear Recent History
- Change the Time range to clear to Everything
- Click the arrow to the left of details and deselect all the checked boxes except for cache
- Click on Clear Now
In Internet Explorer (Versions 9, 10, and 11)
- Launch Browser
- Select the tools icon
- Select Safety
- Click Delete browsing history
- Check off Temporary Internet Files and Cookies
- Click Delete
In Microsoft Edge
- Launch Edge
- Click on the three horizontal lines at the top right hand corner of the browser
- Select the history Icon
- Select Clear All History
- Check off Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files
- Click Clear
In Safari (Version 8)
- From the Safari menu, select Clear History and Website Data
- Select the desired time range, and then click Clear History
- Go to Safari>Quit Safari and the browser will close
- You cannot reopen Safari with the cache cleared
In Newer Versions of Safari
- From the Safari menu, select Empty Cache
- Click on Empty
- Reload the current page by refreshing or exiting and reopening the browser.
