How to Install a Networked Printer
The following guide will assist you in installing a networked printer on your Mac OS system. The latest drivers for HP printers (v.5.0) are available at the following location: https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888 Note: this download is 584 MB. This should be downloaded if the printer model that you wish to install is NOT AVAILABLE on the printer list in Step 4B (below). The departmental networked printers are in Bous 118, 145a, 173, 190C, and A316.
Prerequisite: install Apple HP Printer Drivers for Mac OS:

Step 1.
Select the “Apple” icon at upper left hand corner. Then select “System Preferences”
Step 2.
From the full system preferences window (shown below), select Printers & Scanners.
Step 3.
Make sure that Printers & Scanners is selected and click the small “+” on lower left corner of window
Step 4A.
The following screen will appear. Make sure that the icon of the “globe” (top icon, center) is selected from the top menu and that under “Protocol” field Line printer Daemon - LPD is selected.
Step 4B.
Fill in the “Printer Address” field with “psyprint.psy.uconn.edu”
Fill in "Queue" field with the name of the printer you will print to. Faculty-only options are printer118, printer145a, printer173 (no spaces). Faculty or grad student options are printer 190c, printera316 (no spaces). Printer190C is shown throughout this document.
Fill in the "Name"field with the display name of the printer you wish for the printer. It should be something like "Printer Xxx". In this example case, it could be “Printer 190C”. You can fill in the “Location” field with the room name (optional).
Step 5.
Under "Use" , Point and Click on "Select Printer Software".
This will bring up a new page Printer Software and a long list of HP printers, provided that the prerequisite HP Printer Drivers have been installed.
You must select the model name for the printer being installed. In the case of the Printer in Bous 190C, and currently all other printers, "HP LaserJet 600 M601 M602 M603" should be selected. If you do not see the correct model, the latest HP print drivers are available at the following location https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1888?locale=en_US%3C/a%3E%3C/span%3E.%3E as described in the prerequisite step. See the following table for the model name associated with each networked printer.

Step 6.
For printer options click on the "Configure" button as the printer loads.
On the following screen after selecting printer model make sure that "Optional Tray 3" has "500-Sheet Input Tray" selected and that the "Duplex Unit" is also checked. You may need to push the scroll bar up (at right) in order to see all the options.
We maintain many network printers. The ones listed below are available for use by different populations, so PLEASE note the group to which you belong and do not print to any others.
Step 7.
If successful the printer will be listed as shown.
Additional Notes:
If you require more printers to be installed, this is accomplished by returning to Step 3 and adding information for the additional printer.
Note: Please do NOT select "Share this printer on the network".
It is a good practice to print a test page to the printer at this time.
