Make sure that IMAP is enabled on your Gmail account prior to attempting this procedure.
Adding a Gmail account in Apple Mail
- Open the "Mail" application by clicking the Mail icon in the doc or searching for "Mail" using spotlight search.
- Go to Mail > Add Account.
- Click Google.
- Click Continue.
- If prompted, authenticate the account by signing in with your Google credentials.
- Select the services you want to sync from your Google account. To only see email select Mail.
- Click Done.
Manually adding Gmail in the Apple Mail app (IMAP)
- Open the "Mail" application by clicking the Mail icon in the doc or searching for "Mail" using spotlight search.
- Go to Mail > Add Account.
- Select Add Other Mail Account.
- Enter your e-mail address and password.
- Click Create.
- Click Next to manually configure account.
- Select IMAP as the Account Type.
- Enter imap.gmail.com for Mail Server, and your email address and password in the appropriate locations.
- Use IMAP port: 993
- Use an SSL connection.
- Enter smtp.gmail.com for SMTP server, along with your e-mail and password one more time.
- Use SMTP port: 587
- Use a TLS connection.
- Click Create.
