Definition/Usage

The unique identifier used to authenticate to university computer applications, systems and services.

Characters 1-3: (jps) Randomly generated three-character prefix. Legacy data may include the user’s initials.

Characters 4 and 5: (2019) The two-digit year the netid was generated.

Characters 6 - 8: (002) Incrementally assigned when the first 5 characters are already assigned to someone.

Notes

  • assigned to students, faculty and staff by ITS.

  • the two-digit year should not be used as an attribute to determine an individual’s start date, effective date, etc.
