Compressing files, folders, and programs decreases their size and reduces the amount of space they use on your computer or removable storage devices.
Compressing Files in Mac OSX
- Browse to find the file or folder you wish to compress
- Hold down the Control key on the keyboard and click on the file or folder item
- Select Compress “name of file or folder” (on Mavericks, Yosemite) or Create Archive (on Mountain Lion, Lion, Snow Leopard).
- This will create a .zip file with the name of the file or folder that was compressed.
- Double-click on the .zip file to decompress it.
