This article is for faculty, students, and staff who are experiencing issues with video playback in HuskyCT. The most common causes for issues with video playback are often your browser/device settings or network connection.

Below are some quick-fix solutions. You are encouraged to try each of these solutions first. 

  • Try a different browser.

      Many

     Many times, the cause of the problem is a setting or cache issue in your preferred web browser. 

  • Clear your browser

    cache,  and

    cache and close and restart the browser.

     

    Most video playback issues are resolved by refreshing the browser cache.

  • Restart your computer. If the underlying issue is caused by a runaway or malfunctioning system process, memory, or other system issue, a restart can be surprisingly effective.

  • Verify your browser security

    hasn’t

    has not blocked the video due to “mixed content” (does not apply to Safari).

If the issue you are experiencing with video playback persists, check with others to see if they are experiencing similar playback issues. If they are experiencing similar issues, notify your instructor and provide detailed feedback. If others are not experiencing similar issues, proceed to the other troubleshooting sections below. 

Common Issues and Solutions

Poor Video Quality (e.g.

, Choppy Video, Frequent Buffering, etc.)

  1. Check the quality of your internet connection on the Speedtest website

    1. If the test indicates a download speed less than 1-2 MB/sec, connect your device to a faster network. 

    2. If

      you are connected to a UConn network, contact the ITS Help Center for assistance

    Disable hardware acceleration. 

    Note
    This step only applies to Flash Player.
  2. Right-click on the flash video
  3. Select Settings from the menu that appears. 
  4. Select the first tab displayed along the bottom of the page.
  5. Uncheck the Enable hardware acceleration box. 

Video Stops During Playback

To resolve this issue,

  1. Clear your browser cache. 

  2. Close and restart your browser. 

  3. If you are still unable to play the video,

    1. Use an alternative browser. 

    2. Restart your computer.

A Plugin is Needed to Display This Content

If you receive this popup pop-up message, 

  1. Download Java on your device from the Java website.

  2. Click on the downloaded file to install Java. 

  3. On the download page, click

    the 

    Verify

    button

    to indicate that Java has been successfully installed.

  4. Restart your web browser.

  5. Navigate to the page where the video appears.

  6. Click the link to activate Java, if it is not already active.

Flash Video is Not Playing

To resolve this issue, download and install Adobe Flash Player

Embedded Video is Missing

To resolve this issue, enable mixed content in your browser. 

Error Message: "Not Found – The specified resource was not found, or you do not have permission to access it."

To resolve this issue, contact your instructor for guidance.  This  This error indicates that the video may have been removed , or permissions are set incorrectly in the content collection folder.
