Emergency ProceduresWhen publicizing and communicating an event, make sure to clearly convey all essential details like date, time, location, as well as how a remote participant should request an accommodation. The event planner or organizer should include something like the following on every communication leading up to the event: If you require an accommodation to fully participate in this event, please contact NAME OF PERSON at PHONE and/or EMAIL by DATE.Please review all information provided by OEI on their UConn Guide for Accessible Events. For a livestream event, if you are unsure about remote participant accommodation needs, then you should assume that Live Captioning for the hearing impaired is needed. If you publicized appropriately and did not receive an accommodation request for this, you can stream without Live Captioning. Fortunately, UConn has a service for Live Captioning if needed. UCIS has a no-cost Communication Access Realtime Transcription (CART) service that can be used upon request: Request Services | UConn Communication Access and Interpreting Services Resources for Planners Office of Institutional EquityThe Office of Institutional Equity serves as the University’s primary ADA Compliance office and can support event planners in their provision of accommodations for participants.
