Duo Key Fob for 2FAImage Removed

Step 1: Request a Hardware Token

To request a hardware token, complete the 2FA token request form. A ticket will be generated and you will be notified when the fob is ready for pick up.

Step 2: Register Tokens

Once you have acquired a hardware token, you must register it at the Hardware Token Management Page. After logging in to the portal, enter the code found on the back of the token, omitting any hyphens or spaces. Click Submit, and the portal will link the token to your Duo account, allowing you to use your hardware token as your second factor.

Step 1: Learn about physical Security Keys

If you install the free app, Duo Mobile, on your smartphone, you do not need a security key. If you believe that you need a security key, please reach out to ITS at techsupport.uconn.edu, or swing by the Technology Support Center on Level 1 of Homer Babbidge Library. ITS will advise you and can help you purchase the key.

The smartphone app is also not necessary for 2FA at UConn; you can have Duo text or call you in order to accept a prompt.

Tip

While plugged into your computer, Security Keys have a button that must be pushed to accept the Duo prompt. The button is capacitive touch: it is akin to touching a smartphone screen and does not depress.

Step 2: Buying Security Keys

If you have been advised to purchase a Security Key, you will find that there are many different models of key. The different keys are made to plug into different devices and have different features. You only need the basic security key for Duo at UConn.

The Yubico Security Key Series keys are the value models and are sufficient for use at UConn. They can be found here: https://www.yubico.com/product/security-key-nfc-by-yubico/ and the full product line, including carrying cases, can be found here: https://www.yubico.com/products/.
