You must be on the UConn Network.  If you are not you will have to connect to the UConn Network using the University’s VPN Client. 

Graphical Option (Ubuntu Desktop)

  1.  Open the Nautilus the Nautilus graphical file browser through the the "Applications" menu, or from a terminal window type nautilus –browser, then press Enter. 
  2. Click the Go menu, then click Enter Location…
  3. In the Paththe "Path" field, type type "smb://files.uconn.edu/share/and " and press Enter.
  4. In the pop-up box, enter your NetIDyour NetID, Domain  Domain(grove.ad.uconn.edu) and NetID passwordandNetID password. Then press Enter. 

Command Line Option

  1. If logged on graphically, open Terminal window a Terminal window (N -> CRTL and T togetherCRTL and T together)
    • If logged on remotely via SSH, you are already in a Terminal.

  2. Type Type "smbclient -W grove.ad.uconn.edu -U NetID”  'NetID' //files.uconn.edu/share/" and press Enter. 
  3. Enter your NetID Password at your NetID Password at the prompt, press Enter. 
  4. At the smb: \>prompt, list the contents using using "Is. "
    • You should see your departmental directory listed. You can then change directories into your home directory.
  5. For additional options on using smbclientusing smbclient, please issue the command:  "man smbclient." 
  6. To close the connection, simply type exit type "exit," and then press Enter.
