Students, staff, and faculty can compress files, folders, and programs.
Compression decreases file size and reduces the amount of space that files take up on a computer or removable storage devices.
Compressing Files in MacOS / OS X
To compress files,
- Browse to find the file or folder you wish to compress.
- Hold down the Control key on the keyboard.
- Click on the file or folder item.
- On MacOS / OS X version 10.9 or later, select the Compress [name of file or folder] option. Doing so will create a .zip file with the name of the file or folder that was compressed.
- Double-click on the .zip file to decompress it.
