Creating a Journal
To create a journal for your students follow the steps below.
Creating a Journal Through the Journals Tool Page.
- In the course where you would like to add a journal navigate to Course Management → Course Tools → Journals
- Select "Create Journal"
- Navigate to your course content area.
- Select Tools → Journals
- Select "Link to a Journal"
- Select the journal that you created.
- Submit .
Creating a Journal Through Your Course Content Area.
- In your desired course navigate to the course content area.
- Select Tools → Journals.
2.1 This will open up a new page titled "Create Link: Journal" - If you have already created a journal in the journals tool page you can select "Link to the Journal Page"
3.3 Else, select "Create new Journal" - Under "Journal Information"
- Give the journal a name that both you and your students can understand.
- [ Optional ] Write instructions for the students. This can include a prompt or guidelines for the students.
- Make the journal available to students.
- Under "Journal Date and Time Restrictions"
- If you would like to limit the availability for a certain date and/or time select the "Display After" option and insert a date and time.
- If you would like to have the journal only available until a certain date select the "Display Until" option and insert a date and time.
- Note: both options can be selected at the same time.
- Under "Journal Settings"
- Select the option for which you would like journal entries to be indexed.
- The following three boxes can be seleted as desired for your course.
Note: your settings DO NOT need to be exactly like shown below and should be representative of how you would like your journals to be.
- If you would like to grade journal entries select the "Grade : Points Possible:" option under "Grade Settings" and enter your points possible. Submit.
- Else, Submit.
Grading Journal Entries
- In the Journal settings under "Grade Settings" enter the points possibe for the Journal entries.
- If you have a due date and time you can enter in that information under "Due Date"
- If you would like to grade with a rubric add the rubric in the "Associated Rubrics" area.
