In HuskyCT, a combined course does two things:

  1. Creates a new parent course.
  2. Merges the enrollments from all child courses into the parent course.

A combined course in HuskyCT serves no other purpose than to combine the roster of two different courses into a single course.

This structure looks like this:

The above image shows two courses, PP-3098 SECH01 and PP-5363 SECH90 merged into a single parent course.

After the course combine, students will continue to see the child section that originally enrolled in. Only instructors see the parent course. For this reason, HuskyCT admins generally discourage changing the title of the combined section as it has no effect on what the students see.

Common Misconceptions and FAQ's

  1. It is possible to combine two different class types for a single course (Lab and Lecture, Lecture and Discussion, etc.)
    1. False. Because the enrollments for the different types of sections are the same between types, we cannot combine a lab and lecture section for a single course
  2. Combining sections gives me extra functionality
    1. False. Combining sections only merges two or more class rosters into a single shell in HuskyCT.
  3. If my class is cross-listed in PeopleSoft, this association is setup automatically
    1. False. Course combines must be specifically requested from the HuskyCT Course Combine Form

Only instructors see the parent course. Students see the course they are enrolled in in PeopleSoft.
