Faculty, staff, and students can use Webex, provided through ITS, as a telephone conference bridge, which enables a host to run a meeting, and guests to join a meeting without a computer. A computer is still required if you would like to schedule the Meeting and to share the Meeting information. This process uses telephone lines, not the Cisco Webex Meetings smartphone app.
A "Webex Meeting" and "Phone Conference" are one and the same; the use of one of these names depends on personal choice reflecting how the majority of users are joining. Therefore, phone conferences are scheduled in the same manor as Meetings. Any participant can join either through computer (internet) or phone (phone line), and they may switch back and forth during the Meeting.
Beginning the Phone Conference in Your Personal Room
To begin the phone conference in your Personal Room,
- Click on the More ways to join option on your home page once you have logged in to Webex. Doing so will bring up an information box. Here, you will find the phone number, access code, and host PIN number required for the telephone connection. Share the Access Code and phone number with those who will be calling in. Do not share the Host Pin.
- To begin the Meeting:
- On a Computer
- Click on the green Start a Meeting button to begin a Personal Room meeting from your PC and open it to callers,
- If you would like to use a phone, click on the audio options. It will likely say Use computer audio.
- Click on that button to change it to Call in. If you would like to use your computer's microphone and speakers, simply leave it as Use computer audio.
- If you would like to use a phone, click on the audio options. It will likely say Use computer audio.
- Click on the green Start a Meeting button to begin a Personal Room meeting from your PC and open it to callers,
- By phone call
- To begin hosting the meeting by phone, call 1-415-655-0002.
- Follow the instructions to enter your Access Code/Meeting Number
- Follow the instructions to enter your Host PIN.
- The meeting will begin locked. Dial *5 to unlock your Personal Room to allow others to join.
- Dial *5 again to Lock the Room.
- To begin hosting the meeting by phone, call 1-415-655-0002.
- On a Computer
To have others join your meeting, share the Access Code/Meeting Number found in the More ways to join pop-up menu (explained above).
Do not share your Host Pin.

You and your attendees will always call the same number; it is the Meeting Number/Access Code that will direct you to the correct meeting.
Setting Up a Scheduled Phone Conference
To set up a scheduled phone conference,
Schedule the Conference as you would any other Meeting.
For more information about scheduling Webex meetings, review the article, Scheduling Webex Meetings.- When you are done scheduling, you will be directed to the meeting information page. The section at the bottom contains the important information.
- Every meeting in Webex will have the same number to dial; it is the Access Code/Meeting Number that directs your call to the correct meeting.
- You may share just the information circled, or you may use the Share button circled above to copy-and-paste all the information into an email or other communication.

Joining a Meeting through a Phone Line: +1-415-655-0002
When joining a meeting through a phone line, keep in mind the following:
- If you are the Host, see the section "Setting Up and Beginning the Phone Conference in Your Personal Room" above.
- If you are not the Host, continue below:
- Call the number above.
- Enter the Access Code/Meeting Number
- If you already know the Access Code/Meeting Number of the Meeting, dial the number above then wait for the voice to speak to you. It will ask you to enter the Access Code/Meeting Number and then press #
- ex: 123 456 789#
- If you do not know the Access Code/Meeting Number but have an invite link:
- Open the email or other location where you received the Join Link, and click on the join link.
- Cancel the download if it appears
- Click on the information icon ⓘ at the top of the screen following the Meeting name to open the Meeting Information
- In that pop-up you will find the Access Code/Meeting Number
- If you do not know the Access Code/Meeting Number and do not have an invitation
- Ask the Host to share the Access Code/Meeting Number with you

- If you already know the Access Code/Meeting Number of the Meeting, dial the number above then wait for the voice to speak to you. It will ask you to enter the Access Code/Meeting Number and then press #
- Enter your Attendee ID
- After entering the Access Code/Meeting Number, you will be asked to enter your Attendee ID. You may bypass this step by pressing the pound symbol on your keypad (#).
- If you have already joined the Meeting with a computer, you can find your Attendee ID by clicking on ⓘ Meeting Information in the top-left corner. If you would like to switch to using your phone to transmit and receive audio only, take note of your Attendee ID and enter it when calling in. This will allow Webex to associate your phone number with your UConn Webex account for this meeting. Entering your Attendee ID will cause your name in the Participants List to appear with a phone icon next it, rather than just your phone number appearing in the list with a name.
