Read&Write is a customizable toolbar that integrates reading, writing, studying, and research support tools with common applications. Some features include Text To Speech with Dual Synchronized Highlighting, Talking Dictionary, Picture Dictionary, Vocabulary Tool, Study Skills tools to capture highlights and OCR capabilities. The software is available to all UConn students through a site license provided by the Center for Students with Disabilities.

Features:

Read&Write integrates reading, writing, studying, and research support tools. These tools enable users to:

  • Hear online text read aloud 

  • Convert documents into MP3 files

  • Advanced spellchecker and word prediction

  • Use screen masking to help you concentrate

  • Unlock PDFs for easy editing

Installing Read&Write

  1. Navigate to the Read&Write product page

  2. Scroll down and click Try Read&Write Today

  3. Fill out the Free Trial Form with your First/Last Name

  4. Work Email Address: be sure to type your @uconn.edu email address. By using this, you will get the FULL ACCESS (not a free trial) to all the icons on the Read&Write toolbar

  5. Job Role: select Non-Budget holder

  6. I am …: Make appropriate selection. For example, if you are a student, select “a student”

  7. Tell us why you’re trialing: Type “this is an assistive technology tool that was recommended by my university”

  8. When all fields are filled out, choose Start Free Trial

  9. Choose the appropriate operating system (Windows or Mac) for the device on which you are downloading Read&Write

  10. Follow the on-screen prompts for the installation

  11. Log in with your UConn Microsoft email and password once Read&Write has been installed
