How to Start a 3D Printing Project

To get started, prepare your design using 3D Modeling software. If you are an engineering student, you have access to SolidWorks through the Engineering Department.  If you are not an engineering student, we recommend TinkerCad to get started. If you have an idea in mind and aren't interested in creating your own design, there are thousands of free designs available on Thingiverse ranging from toothpaste tube squeezers to custom breadboard creations.

Once you have your prepared file, export it as an .stl or a .zip and fill out the 3D Print Form on the UConn Library Maker Studio page to send your design to our technicians for review.  You will then receive a confirmation of receipt and will be contacted with questions about your print request and an expected date for completion. Pricing  

Since the 3D printing service is subsidized by the University’s Technology Fee, we are able to offer 3D Printing to Undergraduate Students free of charge.  We will work with graduate students, faculty, and staff on pricing arrangements. 

Pickup

Once you receive confirmation that your 3D print is ready for pick-up, please visit the UConn Library Maker Studio on Level 1 at Homer Babbidge Library.
