This article is intended for faculty who want to know how to work with letter grades in the HuskyCT GradeBook in the Ultra view. Letter grade schemas are used to automatically calculate student letter grades based on a percentage-based grade schema. HuskyCT courses include a default letter grade schema, but instructors can edit existing schemas or create new ones based on their specific grading policies/plans. Letter grade schemas can be used to display letter grades for any GradeBook column and are commonly used to display letter grades for midterm or final grades. The letter grade schemas are setup differently between the Ultra View and the original course view.

Creating or Editing Letter Grade Schemas

To adjust the default letter schema in Ultra, follow these steps:

  • Go to your Grade Book

  • Find and select the gear icon in the top right corner

  • Click on Current Grading Schemas. If the scheme has never been changed “HuskyCT Default Letter” will show up in the blue underlined heading

  • You can then adjust the percentage values for each letter grade, as needed. The letter grades can be conventional letter grades (A through F) or any other letter value you would like to display. You can also change the name of your Schema by clicking on the black box at the top of the page

  • Click Save

Adding a Letter Grade Schema to Content

To add a Grade Schema to an assignment, or other content,

  • Find the Assignment (or other content) you want to add the schema to

  • To the right, click on the “gear” icon for Assignment Settings

  • Under Grading and Submissions, select Grade Using and select the Schema you created

  • Click Save

If you intend to push your grades from HuskyCT to Student Admin/PeopleSoft, the letter grade values must be conventional A through F letter grades. While the Grading Schemas feature does allow you to enter different text other than letter grades, your grades will not push successfully if they are not in a format Student Admin recognizes.
