This article is for faculty who need to administer and proctor exams without the use of Scantron. 

Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) Testing

For faculty seeking to move away from paper or Scantron exams, online testing is available through HuskyCT. Online testing can be offered in the classroom or as an at-home assessment. For faculty who wish to administer online testing in the classroom (BYOD testing), UConn’s ITS has verified that all lecture classrooms have Wi-Fi capabilities sufficient to support this testing. Any classroom listed in UConn’s classroom directory as “fixed-auditorium” has been verified.  You can access this directory here.   • BYOD testing is not a testing center. Rather, it is an option for faculty to administer computer-based testing in their own class using student-owned computers. Just as with all other classroom-based exams, faculty must proctor their own exam or find their own proctors. 
  • BYOD exams are administered using HuskyCT, with or without LockDown Browser.

The Testing Center

Provides efficient administration and proctoring of semester exams to UConn students as well as students from other institutions. The UConn Testing Center adheres to the National College Testing Association (NCTA) Professional Standards and Guidelines and provides a valuable service to students, faculty and staff by promoting honesty, integrity and fairness in a helpful and supportive testing environment. The Respondus LockDown Browser

LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment when used for taking a test in HuskyCT. When taking a test using LockDown Browser, students will be unable to print, copy, go to other websites, access other applications, or close a test until it is submitted for grading.
