Assigning Priority Ranking to Pre-loaded Nursing Plan Classes at classes.uconn.edu - Incoming Students
Background
Using classes.uconn.edu to register for classes, this article is intended for any incoming Nursing student in preparation for your first semester at UConn. Following this guide will allow you to enter your preferences for each of the classes you will take in the Fall semester.
You will work closely with your advisor during the registration process as they will provide valuable resources and help documents that will instruct you on which classes you should select and list as preferences.
On the Elisabeth DeLuca School of Nursing - Information for New Students website, navigate to the Step 1: Pre-Orientation and Course Registration Tasks – Complete by May 13th collapsible region. This section discusses which classes you should select for Fall 2026 enrollment as recommended by the School of Nursing. It identifies:
whether you should select a given course based on considerations like AP, ECE, or Dual Enrollment credit; or
if you have credit (or credit waiting) for a given course, which other UConn course you should select instead.
You will log into classes.uconn.edu to retrieve a pre-loaded Fall 2026 Incoming Nursing Students Plan, and then you will include two additional courses.

CHEM 1122 - Chemical Principles and Applications
HDFS 1070 - Individual and Family Development
NURS 1130 - Health Care Delivery System
PSYC 1100 - General Psychology I
Add Your Choice of Either ENGL 1007, MATH 1030Q, or STAT 1000Q/1100Q
Navigation: Search Classes
Based on what’s prescribed in the Step 1: Pre-Orientation and Course Registration Tasks section of the Elisabeth DeLuca School of Nursing - Information for New Students website, specify:
Course prompt: either ENGL 1007, MATH 1030Q, or STAT 1000Q/1100Q
Term prompt: Fall 2026
Select the Search button.
In the Search Results pane, select a desired section of that course (e.g., ENGL Section 002).
In the “ENGL 1007, MATH 1030Q, or STAT 1000Q/1100Q” course details, select the Add to Plan button.
Now select:
Which Plan: Fall 2026 Incoming Nursing Students
Term (optional): Fall 2026
Select OK.
This “selected” course will be added to your Fall 2026 Incoming Nursing Students Plan Worksheet automatically.
Add Your TOI 1 - 4 Choice
Navigation: Search Classes
Based on what is prescribed in the Step 1: Pre-Orientation and Course Registration Tasks section of the Elisabeth DeLuca School of Nursing - Information for New Students website, specify:
Term (optional): Fall 2026
Navigation: Advanced Search
Specify your desired TOI (1 - 4) – in this example, TOI1 has been selected.
Select the Search button.
Select the section of your desired TOI course from the list. The system will render the desired TOI course section details.
With the desired section highlighted, select the Add to Plan button.
In the course details, select:
Which Plan: Fall 2026 Incoming Nursing Students
Term (optional): Fall 2026
Select OK.
This “selected” TOI course section will be added to your Fall 2026 Incoming Nursing Students Plan Worksheet automatically. You will now have 7 courses in your Plan Worksheet.
Select the PLAN TOOLS button.
Select the SCHEDULE MY PLAN button.
Select any Plan Section Filters that you want the system to apply (class availability, time restrictions, preferred campus).
Indicate which courses you want to include when generating possible schedules by selecting/deselecting each course’s checkbox in the Pick Plan Courses to Add To the Cart section.
At this time, based on the instructions prescribed in the Step 1: Pre-Orientation and Course Registration Tasks section of the Elisabeth DeLuca School of Nursing - Information for New Students website, you may have enough information to determine whether you should enroll in:
CHEM 1122 or BIOL 1107;
PSYC 1100 or HDFS 1070.
If you have enough information to make that determination, you can deselect the unneeded course. If you don’t have enough information, then those courses can remain in your Plan Worksheet.
Select the GENERATE SCHEDULES button.
The system will render all possible schedules that meet your filtered criteria (Open Classes, Respect Excluded Times, and a desired campus).
Select a schedule – the background color will appear yellow upon selection. The calendar widget allows you to view the selected schedule in Calendar View.
Review the possible schedules rendered, and then select the one that is most desirable to you.
Accept New Cart and Populate Primary Cart
After selecting the desired schedule, the system allows you to add the courses to your Primary Cart. Select the ACCEPT NEW CART button.
The system will have you confirm the ACCEPT action to add these courses to your Primary Cart.
Select OK.
These classes will be added to your Primary Cart, and any pertinent messages (e.g., Enrollment Holds, etc.) will be rendered for your attention/follow-up and/or information. You will need to resolve these Enrollment Hold messages in order for you to enroll in your courses. This hold does not prevent you from populating your Primary Cart nor does it prevent you from assigning your priority rankings.
There are some course-level messages that will be displayed that you can ignore (e.g., Term unit maximum would be exceeded). The enrollment process has built-in logic to determine which of CHEM 1122/BIOL 1107 and PSYC 1100/HDFS 1070 you should be enrolled in (based on AP, ECE, and Dual Enrollment credit you are bringing in), and it will resolve the Term unit maximum conditions for you automatically. Receiving this message does not prevent you from populating your Primary Cart nor does it prevent you from assigning your priority rankings.
Map Out Your Class Preferences
Panel label: Cart Contents
Cart: Primary (Fall 2026)
Now that you have populated your Primary Cart, you will define your preferences for which class you want to be placed in first, second, third, etc. In other words, you will define your priority ranking for these classes using what is called Registration Options.
If it is easier, write down your preferences in order; then you can specify that mapping out in the system.
Assign | Registration Order (Priority |
|---|---|
NURS 1130 | First (Highest) |
CHEM 1122 | Second |
BIOL 1107 | Third |
PSYC 1100 | Fourth |
HDFS 1070 | Fifth |
ENGL 1007, MATH 1030Q, or STAT 1000Q/1100Q | Sixth |
TOI 1 - 4 | Seventh |
Assign Your Registration Rankings and Preferences
Using your mapped rankings, you will navigate to your Primary Cart and assign your preferred rankings through the Edit Registration Options on each class.
When assigning your preferences, it does not matter which section of the course you choose, lecture, lab (denoted with an L appended to the Section Number), or discussion (denoted with a D appended to the Section Number).

Grading Basis | Do not change - accept the defaulted value |
Registration Order | Enter desired ranking: Identify in which order you want the system to assign your preference to this class. First (Highest) = most preferred class Second Third Fourth Fifth Sixth Seventh Eighth Ninth = least preferred class Auto = no preference – have the system assign the class automatically wherever it can slot the class into my schedule If you attempt to assign all classes with a Registration Order = First (Highest), this results in the system not using any preferences for any of your classes. Do not do this. |
First Alternative | For the Pre-loaded Fall 2026 Incoming Nursing Students Plan, this field will default to Other Course sections. Accept this default. |
Second Alternative | For the Pre-loaded Fall 2026 Incoming Nursing Students Plan, this field will default to Other Course sections. Accept this default. |
Select Save.
Repeat these steps for each of your remaining classes – make sure you specify the desired Registration Order that you previously mapped out.
After you have completed assigning the desired values for the Registration Order of each of your classes, the result should match your preferred Registration Order.
There is no Registration Order Summary page available for you to view all of your course preferences at once. If you want to confirm your choices, you will need to go into each course again and review your elections there.
