Reviewing Class Details
Select a course in the Search Results listing that you want to explore further.
A Class Details panel will display information related to the course. The selected course will be highlighted in a goldenrod color in the Search Results panel.
Please note that when a course is selected from the Search Results, in some cases the Class Details panel will display the Class Details for a particular Section and in some cases the Class Details panel will display the Class Details for the Course.
Class Details for a Section
The Class Details for a Section will display the following:
a Section # immediately following the Subject, Catalog Number, and Title
section-specific Class Details, including Seats and Waitlist information, Reserved Seats, Required Linked Sections, and Meeting Info
Also, the section will be selected in the All Sections area.
Example: The image below shows the Class Details panel for BIOL 1110 Section 001, which is a section.
Class Details for a Course
The Class Details for a Course will not display the following:
a Section # immediately following the Subject, Catalog Number, and Title
section-specific Class Details
Also, a section will not be selected in the All Sections area.
Example: The image below shows the Class Details panel for BIOL 1110, which is a course.
The Class Details panel may display any of the following information:
If the Class Details region does not apply to the course or section, it will not display.
Class Details Region | Description |
|---|---|
Description | The Description will provide the catalog description of the course. |
Reserved Seats | Some sections have seats reserved for certain groups of students – for example, the section might have a set number of seats reserved for students in a particular major. If so, this region will describe how many seats are reserved, followed by how many seats are available (e.g, 10 reserved, 10 available). If no section is selected in the All Sections region, this area may indicate ‘Varies by Section.’ |
Registration Restrictions | Registration Restrictions include any conditions a student must meet in order to enroll in the class, such as prerequisites or credit restrictions. |
Required Linked Sections | Some sections require concurrent enrollment in associated section types, for instance lecture (LEC), discussion (DIS), and/or laboratory (LAB). The Required Linked Sections area will indicate all the required sections that must be taken concurrently with the selected section displayed in the Class Details panel. Depending on your search criteria, the system will automatically exclude (gray out) sections that do not meet your search criteria. The Required Linked Sections region is described in more detail in a later section. |
Section Attributes | If the course satisfies (a) Topic(s) of Inquiry, (b) Content Area(s), or (c) a Competency criteria, those will be reflected in this Section Attributes area. |
Meeting Info | This region indicates the days, times and/or dates the section meets. If no section is selected in the All Sections region, this area may indicate Varies by Section. |
All Sections | The All Sections region displays all the sections for the course in the Class Details panel. If a section is selected, it will be highlighted in a goldenrod color. Depending on your search criteria, the system will automatically exclude (gray out) sections that do not meet your search criteria. The All Sections region is described in more detail in a later section. |
All Sections
The All Sections area will display all sections associated with the course. The grid includes the following section information:
Value | Description |
|---|---|
Class # | The Class # is the number used to enroll in the class. |
Section # | The section number may be followed by a letter to indicate the section type, including:
|
Type | There are several section types, also referred to as section components, including:
|
Meets | This field indicates the meeting pattern for the section, which displays either:
|
Status | The status of the section indicates whether the section is:
|
Depending on your search criteria, the system will automatically exclude (gray out) sections that do not meet your search criteria.
Examples:
If you included a campus in your search criteria, all sections that meet at all other campuses will be grayed out.
If you selected Honors in the advanced search criteria, all non-Honors sections will be grayed out.
Required Linked Sections
Some sections require concurrent enrollment in associated section types, for instance lecture (LEC), discussion (DIS), and/or laboratory (LAB). The Required Linked Sections area will indicate possible required sections that must be taken concurrently with the selected section displayed in the Class Details panel.
The Required Linked Sections region will not display unless a section from the All Sections area is selected.
Examples:
The Class Details for BIOL 1102 Section 001 LEC displays LAB options in the Required Linked Sections area. One of these LAB sections must be taken if enrolled in the BIOL 1102 Section 001 LEC.
In some cases, more than one Required Linked Section is needed. The Class Details for CHEM 1122 Section 002 LEC displays both DIS and LAB options in the Required Linked Sections area. One of each of these DIS and LAB sections must be taken if enrolled in the CHEM 1122 Section 002.
Alternatively, if you have a desired DIS or LAB section that you select for CHEM 1122, for example, CHEM 1122 Section 023D DIS, the Required Linked Sections area displays the only associated LEC and LAB sections that must be taken with CHEM 1122 Section 023D DIS.
Class Details Calendar
Select the VIEW CALENDAR button to see the all of sections of the course offering plotted on a calendar view. The weekly calendar view will display in the Calendar panel.
When you hover over a particular section, the shading that represents that section turns a bright yellow and the section will display immediately following the Calendar title bar.
Example: The image shows CHEM 1122 Section 002 being hovered over in the Calendar panel.
Following the weekly Calendar view in the Calendar panel is a Term Calendar view.
