Connecting to Hartford Campus Printers

This article will provide how to add printers at the different Hartford locations.

Locations include: Hartford Times, School of Social Work, Hartford Public Library, Hartford Extension, & Rudd Center

Use the expands below to add the printing, according to the operating system that you are running. At the bottom also includes the current list of printers at each location.

Windows:

  1. Go to the search bar at the bottom of desktop

  2. Type “Printers & Scanners”

  3. Click “Add Device” and make sure “work or school” is selected

  4. After a few moments, a variety of printer names will appear. Click “Add device” next to the printer you’d like to install.

    1. These names should be listed directly on the printer with a label

  5. Once added, print a test page and should be all set!

  1. Go to the printer and find the IP Address or Hostname

    1. All Hartford printers should have a label on the front with a name. This would be the “hostname” of the printer

    2. For IP addresses, the IP should be listed on the home page of the printer. If not, print a Configuration Page and it will be listed next to IPV4 Address

  2. Go to search bar at the bottom of the desktop

  3. Type “Printers & Scanners”

  4. Click “Add Device”

  5. After a few moments, you should see a sentence labeled “The printer that I want isn’t listed”, click “Add manually”

  6. Click on “Add a printer using an IP address or hostname”

  7. Keep the device type the same and put the IP address in the “Hostname or IP address” section

    1. Hostname example: “printer”.hartford.uconn.edu

  8. Click “Next”

  9. It will start to detect the printer and will confirm when connected

    1. The printer may be listed as the IP Address for the name. After a few, the printer will appear in the list and can be renamed

 

macOS:

  1. Click the Apple icon in the top left and click “System Settings”

  2. The overall settings screen will appear. In the search bar, type “Printers & Scanners”

  3. Click “Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax”

  4. The “Add Printer” screen will appear. Click the “IP” tab in the top middle

  5. In the address area, put in the IP or hostname of the device

    1. IP is listed on the home screen of the printer or in the expand below

    2. The hostname naming convention is: “printer”. hartford.uconn.edu

      1. The name is below in the expand or the label on the front of the printer

  6. After that is typed, it may take a few seconds for the information about the printer to populate, but once done, click “Add” in the bottom right

  7. Once added, the device will stay listed as the hostname or IP. To change that, click on the printer and the name will highlight. Type the printer name and click “Done”
