Install Outlook on a Mobile Device

Students, faculty and staff can install the Outlook app on a phone or tablet.

All Microsoft 365 data (email, OneDrive storage, etc.) is stored in the cloud. If you remove your account or uninstall the Outlook app, it will only delete local copies and shortcuts stored on your phone. Data stored in the cloud will not be affected.

ITS does not support the use of Outlook accounts on 3rd-party mail clients (e.g. Apple Mail, Samsung Email, Mozilla Thunderbird). While these apps may offer the option to connect your account, we will be unable to assist if issues arise related to the 3rd-party client. You should only use the official Microsoft Outlook mobile, desktop, or web apps to access your UConn email.

Note about 3rd-party mail clients

There are mail applications made by other companies that offer functionality similar to Microsoft Outlook. Common ones include Apple Mail and Gmail. ITS does not support the use of Outlook accounts on 3rd-party mail clients (e.g. Apple Mail, Samsung Email, Mozilla Thunderbird). While these apps may offer the option to connect your account, we will be unable to assist if issues arise related to the 3rd-party client. You should only use the official Microsoft Outlook mobile, desktop, or web apps to access your UConn email.

Depending on your phone operating system and pre-existing setup, these instructions may vary slightly from what you see.

  1. Open the Outlook app.

  2. Tap on Add Account.

  3. Type in your UConn email address. Then tap Add Account.

  4. You will be redirected to a UConn sign in page. Enter your NetID password.

  5. If you are prompted by Duo, accept the request.

  6. You are then asked if you would like to add a second account. Tap on Maybe Later to skip this step.

  7. Your inbox has been added to your Outlook app.

Add a second account to the Outlook app

  1. Open the Outlook app on your mobile device.

  2. Tap on the home button in the top left corner. If you have a profile picture, it will be shown instead.

  3. Tap on the plus button under your profile picture to add a new account.

  4. In the menu that pops up at the bottom, tap on Add Email Account.

  5. Depending on which account you wish to add, it may already be listed. Otherwise, tap on Skip.
