Checkout a file in SharePoint
In a SharePoint site, files are accessible to all members. However, there are situations where you do not want others editing a file. Faculty, staff, and students can follow this guide to learn how to “Check out” files in order to lock them from edits and then “Check in” the files to return them to an accessible state.
Checking out a file prevents all others from editing it. Others may still view the file.
Those who wish to use SharePoint to backup their Access Database(s) need to follow this guide to prevent conflicts and the creation of multiple files.
