Set up Outlook on a Computer

Members of the UConn community can access their Outlook email through the Microsoft 365 web portal or by downloading the Microsoft 365 apps to their devices.

If you have a university-issued computer for work, you should already have the Microsoft 365 apps installed. Reach out to your IT support contact if your managed workstation does not have these apps installed.

Removing an account from your device will not delete your data. All Microsoft 365 data (email, OneDrive storage, etc.) is stored in the cloud and removing an account will only remove local copies or shortcuts to this data.

ITS does not support the use of Outlook accounts on 3rd-party mail clients (ex. Apple Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird). While you may be able to add your account to some of these apps, we will be unable to assist if issues arise related to the 3rd-party client.

Windows

Outlook for Windows

The Outlook app is included in the Microsoft 365 suite of apps. You can install them here: Installing Microsoft 365 apps

Sign in

  1. Open the Outlook app that is installed with Windows.

  2. If prompted - add your UConn email address and select “Connect”.

  3. You will then be redirected to a Microsoft log in screen. Enter your UConn email address then NetID password.

Outlook should now have your account saved upon restart.

Sign out

  1. In Outlook, go to File → Office Account.

  2. Under user information, click the Sign out link.

Sign back in

  1. In Outlook, go to File → Office Account.

  2. Click the Sign In link.

  3. You will now be presented with the Microsoft log in screen. After entering your UConn email address and NetID password, you will receive the Duo 2FA prompt to confirm.

Once this procedure is complete, your credentials will be saved, and you will only have to reauthenticate if you sign out/sign back in again. (Exiting Outlook or restarting your computer will not require reauthenticating)

macOS

Outlook for Mac

You can install Outlook and the rest of the Microsoft 365 apps here: Installing Microsoft 365 apps

Sign out

  1. Open Outlook for Mac.

  2. In the top left corner of the screen, navigate to Outlook → Preferences...

  3. Select Accounts.

  4. In the window that appears, click the minus (-) button in the bottom left corner and click the Delete button when prompted to confirm.

Sign back in

  1. Click the plus (+) button in the bottom left corner and select New Account...

  2. Enter your UConn email address and password. Approve the Duo request to confirm the sign in.

Once this procedure is complete, your credentials will be saved, and you will only have to reauthenticate if you remove/re-add the account again. Exiting Outlook or restarting your computer will not require reauthenticating.

Outlook for Web

You do not need to install an app to view Outlook, you may simply visit the Outlook web app (website).

Sign in

  1. Navigate to s.uconn.edu/outlook

  2. Select Sign in and enter your UConn email address then password

  3. Confirm the Duo 2FA verification if prompted, and then Outlook should load up.

Sign out

  1. In the upper-right-hand corner of your web browser, select your picture or initials.

  2. Select Sign Out.

Sign back in

Refresh the Outlook website to sign back in.
