P: Drive — OneDrive Migration Overview
Starting December 16, 2024, the School of Business IT Department will begin migrating all of our users' P: Drive data over to Microsoft’s OneDrive service. Microsoft’s OneDrive offers 1 TB of storage, and will allow you to access and store the same types of files you previously could on your P: Drive. This guide provides an overview of both where your previous P: Drive files will be located following the migration to OneDrive, as well as instructions on how to operate OneDrive on your computer.
Additional information regarding this migration process has been emailed to you – search your Outlook client for an email with the subject line “P Drive Migration on December 20, 2024”.
Accessing Imported P: Drive Files on OneDrive
To view your files, sign in to your UConn OneDrive account at uconn-my.sharepoint.com.
Click on “My Files” on the left-hand side of the initial OneDrive screen.
Your imported P: Drive folder will be labeled “BUSN-P”.
You will be notified via email of any errors that are found while your P: Drive is imported over to OneDrive (i.e. file path too long, file type unreadable, etc.)
Setting up OneDrive for the first time
Windows 10 & 11 come preinstalled with OneDrive. From the Start Menu, enter and open “OneDrive”.
Mac users can also utilise an official version of OneDrive, available on Apple’s App Store.
Make sure your UConn email address is correctly auto-filled in the Email Address field and select “Sign in”.
On the next screen, you are able to change the default folder location for OneDrive. Users typically leave this location unchanged.
You are initially given the option to automatically back up three folders on your machine – “Documents”, “Pictures”, and “Desktop”. SBIT reccomends you leave these three folders toggled on (as in the image below). This allows you to automatically access the files in these folders from the online OneDrive site.
You can then access your OneDrive on your machine by selecting OneDrive as in step 1 of this section.
Uploading Files
Begin by right-clicking the OneDrive icon on your taskbar. You may need to expand the hidden icons on your taskbar by selecting the icon highlighted in the image below.
In the OneDrive window that appears, select either “Open folder” or “View online”; the former option will open a file explorer window version of OneDrive, the latter an online browser version.
Simply drag any files to the resulting window.
